Mary Margaret Mackinnon is a Vancouver lawyer who acted as General Counsel for the Archdiocese of Vancouver and the Catholic School Board for more than 30 years. She has also represented the Diocese of Whitehorse, the Diocese of Victoria, the Diocese of Mackenzie and many other Western Canadian religious institutions. She has lectured on matters of faith and law and represented various religious institutions during the Truth and Reconciliation process.
Over the past ten years, Mary Margaret has acted as a mediator in civil proceedings. In 2024, she left her law firm and started MMM Mediations. She currently mediates in matters of employment law, personal injury and sexual harassment and abuse.
Mary Margaret received her designation as King’s Counsel (KC) in 2021; the highest Papal honour in 2024; Confirmed Induction in the British Columbia Chapter of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals and the Little Flower Academy Distinguished Alumnae award in 2026.
In June 2026, Mary Margaret was appointed Ombudsperson for the Catholic Independent Schools of British Columbia, serving as an independent, impartial reviewer of appeals after the schools' internal review processes have been completed.
